"Awe-inspiring medical technology has combined with egalitarian rhetoric to create the dangerous delusion that contemporary medicine is highly effective. Although contemporary medicine is built on this erroneous assumption, it is contradicted by informed medical opinion."
Ivan Illich

"I no longer believe in Modern Medicine. I believe that despite all the super technology and elite bedside manner….the greatest danger to your health is the doctor who practices Modern Medicine. I believe that Modern Medicine’s treatments for disease are seldom effective, and that they’re often more dangerous than the disease they’re designed to treat. I believe more than 90% of Modern Medicine could disappear from the face of the earth---doctors, hospitals, drugs and equipment---and the effect on our health would be immediate & beneficial……Modern Medicine can’t survive without our faith, because Modern Medicine is neither an art nor a science. It’s a religion."
Dr Robert Mendelsohn MD

"Society today is paying a heavy price in disease and death for the monopoly granted the medical profession in the 1920’s. In fact, the situation peculiarly resembles that of the 1830s when physicians relied on bloodletting, mercurial medicines, and quinine, even though knowing them to be intrinsically harmful. And precisely the same arguments were made in defense of these medicines as are employed today, namely, that the benefits outweigh the risks. In truth, the benefits accrue to the physician, while the patient runs the risks."

  Prognosis for Modern Medicine

"There is no way to be nice about this. There is no point in raising false hopes. There is no treatment or vaccine in sight. There is no miracle breakthrough on the horizon.

Medicine, as we know it, is dying. It's entering a terminal phase.

What began as an acute illness reached the chronic stage about a decade ago and progression toward death has been remarkably swift and well beyond anything one could have predicted.

The disease is caused by conflict of interest, tainted research, greed for big bucks, pretentious doctors and scientists, lying, cheating, invasion by the morally bankrupt marketing automatons of the drug industry, derelict politicians and federal and state regulators - all seasoned with huge doses of self-importance and foul odor."

Nicholas Regush

When we choose to not be responsible for our own health, and not educate ourselves in the maintenance of our own bodies--thinking that someone else will do it for us--we are acting in a consumercidal manner. You cannot be a responsible owner of a human body if you are intent upon being a consumer of some external health profession, because a body requires more than that to maintain it's health. We must personally educate ourselves in many areas (such as health and disease), for the education that society provides is often extremely inadequate. We must, as Chomsky 1 says, "Undertake a course of self-protection" in critical topics where we need to be aware of the array of competing knowledges in the arena. Otherwise, we leave ourselves vulnerable to the forces within those arenas that might not have our best interests at heart, but --by their very nature-- seek power, economic benefit and cognitive dominance in that arena.

MetaMedicine
A General Introduction

The purpose of this section is to discuss global issues regarding the situation of medicine and health care. What is the current state of medical care in the western world, and where is medicine going? Why? What actions we can take as consumers or voters (or simply as the owners of human bodies and minds) which will improve the situations that we might find undesirable in medicine?

The current health system that we know in 'the west' is beseiged by problems in a number of areas, or arenas of action:

  • One obvious problem area comes from the economic unsustainability of the medical system, faced with exorbitant costs of both medical services and products.
  • Another battlefront is seen in the number of iatrogenic deaths and injuries that occur due to outright errors by medical practitioners, or other health care staff; particularly in hospitals. eg 1 , 2
  • A third area which is given much less attention but is arguably the most important of all, is the potential reliance by western medical clinicians and researchers upon inadequate scientific/medical theories; theories that nevertheless underlie the provision of medicine and health care.
  • A fourth arena arises through the presence of the first and third problems, in the manipulation of medical consensus and knowledge itself by the entities within medicine that hold massive power over what is or becomes accepted, credible medical knowledge. These entities apparently protect economic and professional vested interests over and above the supposedly predominant concern (/facade) for human health.
  • A fifth concern arises when we can see the present environment as a motivating force towards disease. This can be seen in terms of a multiplicity of factors that exist in all four quadrants of wilber's assessment of knowledge (see philosophy section for an explanation of Wilber's concepts). The multiplicity includes such factors as individual psychological dispositions towards self-annihilatory consumercide (more on this in consciousness ); external, physical-environmental toxins; and paradigm based erroneous conceptualisations and practice by health care professionals, dieticians, medical researchers, etc. that paradoxically encourage disease and it's subsequent maltreatment under the aegis of disease management (the latter factor has some parallels to point #3 above).
  • A sixth concern involves information distribution in medicine and health care. History has seen a great deal of oppression of medical knowledge for a variety of irrelevant reasons, delivered via anything from sheer arrogance through to the coercive and even violent protection of vested interests. The scientific peer review process of evaluation and distribution of research knowledge has represented at least as much of a stifling effect upon medical care as it has provided for progress in medical knowledge. The problem is compounded by the centralisation of mass media. However, the situation finds some respite in the growth of individual and community publication and interactive power as offered by the internet.
The first two points above are not the central concern of this site. It is a matter of public record that the health care system is in economic crisis, and it is also uncontroversial to note that huge iatrogeny occurs through simple hospital staff errors. The content of this site is principally focussed upon the other points, that are more relevant to medical and health care knowledge and consensus. These factors represent a largely unseen ' iatrogenocide ' of vast proportions.

The successful existence of a mass poison industry implies a paradox or weakness in human nature as much as in Novartis. Successful leaders and organizations exist by satisfying their constituencies and satisfying the desires of their consumers. Novartis claims that it knows its consumers best, however, most of us are unwitting or unwilling consumers."

Dr Hulda Clark Research Association

Hulda Clark is a proponent of the idea that disease in the body is caused by two factors: parasitical invasion and toxins within the body. The former is usually synergistic with the latter; certain toxins may break own the intestines protective capacity against parasitic organisms, allowing them to set-up life cycles in organs of your body where they can't be dealt with by the body. Hulda probably goes a bit to far in her zeal regarding the total impact of parasites and toxins, yet there is no call to "throw out the baby with the bathwater", i.e., her information and research absolutely is fascinating, and well worth consideration by anyone wanting to know more about their body and/or employ alternative medical technologies for the maintenance/restoration of health.

Epsom Salts based Liver Cleanse

Here's a link to one description of the liver cleanse that I was first introduced to via Hulda Clark's writings. Although being entirely asyptomatic of disease myself, I have tried this procedure and found it to be the most incredible experience. Firstly, in seeing what my body had accumulated over the years (and the positive health benefits of the elimination of it), and secondly, to see first hand the evidence of the simplicity and effectiveness with which this remedy is applied --in comparison to the dangerous and complex surgical method that is nevertheless held up as the orthodoxy's best solution to the problem of gallstones.

http://abarefootdoctor.com/Liver%20Cleanse.htm

From that website;

"The Liver cleanse procedure contradicts many modern medical viewpoints. Gallstones are thought to be formed in the gallbladder, not the liver. they are thought to be few, not thousands. They are not linked to pains other than gallbladder attacks. It is easy to understand why this is thought: by the time you have acute pain attacks, some stones are in the gallbladder, are big enough and sufficiently calcified to see on X-ray, and have caused inflammation there. When the gallbladder is removed the acute attacks are gone, but the bursitis other pains or digestive problems remain."

Is this one of the frontiers of a new medicine, based on the understanding of the human body's bioelectric fields?

The Assemblage Point is the missing link that is absent in all current medical, psychological, scientific, philosophical and spiritual models. A Reference;

Geison, Gerald L. The Private Science of Louis Pasteur. Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1995.

 Gerald Geison has meticulously examined Pasteur's actual scientific procedures as recorded by Pasteur in his own handwriting in more than 140 private, laboratory notebooks and compared them to Pasteur's published reports of his research. On the basis of discrepancies between the private records and public announcements and papers, Geison argues that Pasteur deliberated deceived the public about his methods in several highly publicized episodes, the anthrax trial at Pouilly-Le-Fort and the rabies treatment of Joseph Meister. Pasteur's motives appeared variously, depending upon the episode, to be to hide the incomplete nature of his research preparation or to falsify the riskiness (either falsely to heighten it so as to accent his courage or falsely to downplay it so as to accent his soundness as a researcher) of his trials. In Geison's view Pasteur never conducted fraudulent science, but his commitment to theories sometimes outran his empirical evidence and his move to human subjects did not reflect sufficient clinical caution (Pasteur was not an M.D.).

Medical politics is the art of sheer power.  There is no compromise: you go right for the jugular vein before your own is torn out.  There's no room for compromise because churches never compromise on canon law....in medical politics there is a rigid authoritarian power structure which can be moved only through winner-take-all power plays.  Historically, doctors who have dared to change things significantly have been ostracized and have had to sacrifice their careers in order to hold to their ideas. Few doctors are willing to do either."
—Dr Robert Mendelsohn MD
Although some forces -the internet and patients' empowerment- might offer opportunities for "de-medicalisation," many others encourage greater medicalisation. Patients and their professional advocacy groups can gain moral and financial benefit from having their condition defined as a disease. Doctors, particularly some specialists, may welcome the boost to status, influence, and income that comes when new territory is defined as medical. Advances in genetics open up the possibility of defining almost all of us as sick, by diagnosing the "deficient" genes that predispose us to disease. Global pharmaceutical companies have a clear interest in medicalising life's problems, and there is now an ill for every pill. Likewise companies manufacturing mammography equipment or tests for prostate specific antigen can grow rich on the medicalisation of risk. Many journalists and editors still delight in mindless medical formulas, where fear mongering about the latest killer disease is accompanied by news of the latest wonder drug. Governments may even welcome some of society's problems within, for example, criminal justice being redefined as medical, with the possibility of new solutions . ...

    REVISED OATH FOR DOCTORS
    This more comprehensive Oath was drawn by Dr. Leo Rebello in 2003, since Hippocrates Oath is now partly outdated being
    centuries old. This revised Oath has been widely circulated, accepted and appreciated.

    1st July is celebrated as Doctors Day all over the world. The day usually passes ithout a whimper. Many doctors have forgotten
    their Hippocratic oath or humanism. Therefore, I would like to administer the following oath to the doctors to serve as a reminder as
    to how important is their profession. Doctors to please repeat after me.

    I, -------------, do hereby swear on this solemn day that :-
    I shall NOT prescribe unnecessary medicines and tests to my patients;
    I shall NOT give false counseling;
    I shall NOT overcharge and accept cuts and gifts;
    I shall NOT rape tiny tots with innoculations or vaccinations, for they pollute the blood stream of small children leading to serious
    diseases like AIDS, Cancers later in life;
    I shall NOT prescribe lethal drugs, like anti-retrovirals, chemotherapy, or give ECT to my patients;
    I shall NOT be afraid of any authority and fabricate medical records or give false evidence;
    I shall NOT exploit students studying under me;
    I shall NOT manipulate findings or results to win grants.

    I, -------------, further solemnly affirm that:-
    If I cannot treat a disease, I shall not say that AIDS, cancers, diabetes has no cure.
    But will tell the patient to try other systems of medicine.
    I shall treat health practitioners of other systems with respect and not tell deliberate lies
    to prove my importance.
    I shall study holistic healing modalities to increase my knowledge and wisdom.
    I shall not even by mistake say that "HIV=AIDS=death" or cancers cannot be treated.
    I shall not frighten my patients with unnecessary comments, opinions or advice.
    I still remember what Hippocrates said, namely, "Let diet be your medicine" and shall accordingly prescribe fresh fruits, vegetables
    and good diet to my patients, rather than tonics, syrups, synthetic multi-vitamins, specially to children.
    I shall NOT perform surgery, unless it is absolutely must and will not indulge in rackets like amniocentesis, caesarian section, silicon
    implant or liposuction.
    I shall work to ban the useless and cruel animal experiments in the name of medicine.
    I shall participate in periodic workshops, seminars, and conferences at my expense or on scholarship (no pharma funding) to educate
    myself and speak from my conscience if I am called upon to speak or preside.

    Finally, I realize and aver that a great responsibility of people's well-being is upon my shoulders and I shall carry on my onerous task
    with utmost dedication.

    This I swear in the name of God on this solemn Doctors Day and I shall repeat this oath daily lest I forget that I am in a divine
    profession to heal the world.
