Experts in a dissident minority consider that the theory which states that Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the cause of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an erroneous one.

The levels at which these experts consider the theory to be in error vary, but all have in common a disenchantment with both the theory and the processes of science and politics that have helped the theory to gain widespread acceptance. Some dissidents consider that there is at least a multifactorial aetiology in AIDS, whilst others assert that there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that HIV has a causative role in AIDS. To these dissidents, the previous “gold standard” methods of assessment of the presence of a retrovirus that were commonly accepted (and derived specifically in order to prevent errors in the perception of such microscopic entities) have been entirely discarded so as to suit the anomalous theory.

A very good introductory essay on the mechanics of this dissent comes from Val Turner of the Western Australian group of scientists (commonly known as the “Perth Group”) who belong to the latter category of dissidents above (i.e., they assert that HIV does not even exist at all in the way that the public has been led to believe). Consumercide.com sees that the scientific and political claims being made by the dissident scientists certainly warrant a much closer examination. The expected process of fair evaluation of the dissident theory has not been anywhere near properly undertaken by the scientific and wider community, that have instead channeled enormous resources upon the basis of an assumption of the adequacy of the postulate that HIV causes AIDS. They have simultaneously suppressed dissent by all of the usual means.

The study of the history of the HIV=AIDS theory, from its beginnings through to the present, offers an incredibly telling insight to the sociological mechanisms that underpin medical scientific knowledge. HIV dissent is another example of a medical controversy that delineates potentially serious anomalies which challenge the present paradigmatic foundational basis of western / orthodox / establishment medicine.
