The AIDS phenomenon at root is a vast pumping aggregation of interests with enormous political and economic power. Doctors and scientists who challenge its sacred tenets risk attracting the wrath of the revolution’s red guards. They won’t be thrown from windows. But their careers will be over. For their reactionary intransigence these critics will be marked always with pejorative epithets, as persistent as tattoos, like ‘discredited’, ‘loony’, ‘maverick’, ‘dangerous’ and ‘irresponsible and pernicious’. Patients and their professional advocacy groups can gain moral and financial benefit from having their condition defined as a disease. Doctors, particularly some specialists, may welcome the boost to status, influence, and income that comes when new territory is defined as medical. 

Experts in a dissident minority consider that the theory which states that Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the cause of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an erroneous one.

The levels at which these experts consider the theory to be in error vary, but all have in common a disenchantment with both the theory and the processes of science and politics that have helped the theory to gain widespread acceptance. Some dissidents consider that there is at least a multifactorial aetiology in AIDS, whilst others assert that there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that HIV has a causative role in AIDS. Another position of scientists at the most extreme position of dissent, is that HIV has not even been properly shown to exist. To these dissidents, the previous “gold standard” methods of assessment of the presence of a retrovirus that were commonly accepted (and derived specifically in order to prevent errors in the perception of such microscopic entities) have been entirely discarded so as to suit the anomalous theory.

A very good introductory essay on the mechanics of this dissent comes from Val Turner of the Western Australian group of scientists (commonly known as the “Perth Group”) who belong to the latter category of dissidents above (i.e., they assert that HIV does not even exist at all in the way that the public has been led to believe). Consumercide.com will soon present essays concerning the sociological analysis of this scientific controversy. The opinion of this author is that the scientific and political claims being made by the dissident scientists certainly warrants a closer examination. The expected process of fair evaluation of the dissident theory has not been anywhere near properly undertaken by a scientific community that has instead channeled enormous resources upon the basis of an assumption of the adequacy of the postulate that HIV causes AIDS. They have simultaneously smeared dissidents via an obfuscating "rhetoric of objectivity".

The study of the history of the HIV=AIDS theory, from it beginnings through to the present, offers an incredibly telling insight to the sociological mechanisms that underpin medical scientific knowledge. The dissent also serves as another example of a controversy that delineates potentially serious anomalies which challenge the present paradigmatic foundational basis of western / orthodox / establishment medicine.

Durban Declaration Rebuttal   A rebuttal to the "Durban Declaration" published in Nature on July 6. In response to the views of dissident scientists who challenge the idea that HIV causes AIDS, an international group of scientists and doctors has released a manifesto called "The Durban Declaration" in an attempt to end debate on this critical world health issue. The journal Nature agreed to publish it in their July 6th issue. Included in this paper is the full text of their manifesto, along with interlinear comments that show how orthodox claims about HIV and AIDS have been repeatedly contradicted in the medical and scientific literature. 
The Perth Group of HIV/AIDS dissidents  was formed in 1981 at the Royal Perth Hospital, teaching hospital for the University of Western Australia. The original members are the leader, biophysicist Eleni Papadopulos-Eleopulos, emergency physician Valendar (Val) Turner and Professor of Pathology John Papadimitriou. 
Duesberg on AIDS  Prof. Peter Duesberg's findings have been a thorn in the side of the medical establishment and drug companies since 1987. Instead of engaging in scientific debate, however, the only response has been to cut-off funding to further test Professor's Duesberg's hypothesis.

If HIV does not cause AIDS, then how many lives have been needlessly ruined? How many separations and divorces, suicides, jail terms, and poisonings (i.e., through deadly HAART pharmaceutical administrations) have occurred in the name of this thesis?

Or what of the psychological and psychosomatic agony suffered when the medical equivalent of "pointing of the bone" occurs?

Has research time & money been spent in vain upon a highly flawed paradigm?

Have social and health services been squandered through a profound misunderstanding of  the phenomenon misleadingly categorised as "AIDS"?

If HIV does not cause AIDS, then resources are diverted from going to help those who really need it in third world situations... and are given instead to wealthy pharmaceutical corporations, whose drugs are of debatable efficacy in improving the condition reported as "AIDS" anyway. Valuable resources are diverted from aiding in the battle against poverty, a fundamental cause of many of the diseases now reclassified as "AIDS" . 

Does the concept of HIV=AIDS then distract from the attention and guilt that the first world should rightfully suffer, for the wide-spectrum oppression of "the south"?

Has an errant paradigm been responsible for a worldwide phenomena of psychological & bodily oppression, based upon moralistic, patriarchal themes implicitly interwoven through science itself?
